As I'm a big sucker for weepies, and no big fan of happy- endings, Carrington is one of my absolute favourites. The chemistry between Emma Thompson (Carrington) and Jonathan Pryce (Lytton Strachey) make the movie very intense, and you actually start thinking they might get together in the end after all.... But alas, this is really a very sad and beautiful story about great unhappy intellects , and impossible love. Still, it's not all trauma. The movie has many joyful scenes, and the warm british humour is not at all absent. Carrington is a very "calm" movie, and there's not much action. This is a quality I really appreciate, as the movie is beautifully shot, on wonderful locations. But the thing that make Carrington stand out, is the impeccable cast. Emma Thompson is fantastic as Dora Carrington, and prove herself an actress of genuine depth. She looks very different in Carrington too, with her boyish "bob", and masculine warderobe. Jonathan Pryce too, is perfect as Lytton Strachey. He won several awards for his work in Carrington... and no wonder!!!
